James “Jim” Rankin Jr., is the Site Director for the Harrisonburg and Staunton Offices. He comes to NCG following a long and productive career with the Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice; a career than began as a probation officer in1971 and ended after 38 years with him as the director of the 31st District Juvenile Court Service Unit in Prince William County, Virginia for 18 years. His duties there included overseeing the operation of one of the larger Court Service Units in the state, developing programming and services to address a continuum of care for at-risk youth with maladaptive behaviors in a community that was at one time the fastest growing in the nation. He earned an undergraduate degree in Social Work from Madison College (now James Madison University) and a Masters Degree in the Administration of Justice and Public Safety from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1985. He received the Virginia Juvenile Justice Association Meritorious Award for Administration in 2007. At the time of his retirement he was president of the Virginia Court Service Unit Directors Association and brings a passion for people along with a wealth of management experience and leadership capabilities to NCG.
Jim enjoys spending time with his family, reading, and sports in general but specifically playing softball (inducted into the Prince William County Softball Hall of Fame in 2007), the Washington Redskins and anything the grandchildren do. He looks forward to returning to the Valley and working to makes lives better for its citizens.
