Community Counseling
Dennis K. Raabe is a master’s prepared professional
who has been working with the National Counseling Group (NCG)
since June 1, 2001. While he started out as a home-based clinician
in our Richmond office, Mr. Raabe quickly proved himself to
be hardworking professional with a gift for establishing new
relationships, and soon became the Site Director of the Richmond
office. Since
that initial promotion, Mr. Raabe has been instrumental in
the development of our Virginia Beach, Roanoke, Newport News
and Eastern Shore offices, and has enjoyed a variety of roles
including Site Director of Virginia Beach and Assistant Director
of Business Development. Mr. Raabe is currently NCG’s
Director of Community Services and is the acting Site Director
for the Eastern Shore office.
Prior to working with NCG,
Mr. Raabe worked as a Tracker for the First Time Juvenile Offender
Program (FTJOP) with the New Concept Self Development Center,
Inc. in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. As a Tracker, Mr. Raabe managed
a caseload of 21 juveniles, providing support, services, and
supervision in an attempt to keep identified juveniles out
of the corrections system. After leaving the FTJOP program,
Mr. Raabe began working with the Center for Child and Family
Services from 1996 through 2001, working for the first two
years as a care coordinator and then as a supervisor for the
Wraparound Milwaukee Program. Mr. Raabe also trained staff
from Wisconsin as well as other states across the country on
the principles, foundation, and philosophy of Wraparound services.
The Wraparound Milwaukee Program is a nationally known SAMHSA
program recognized by the Surgeon General and President of
the United States as a successful model of community-based
mental health services designed to prevent inpatient hospitalizations,
diversion from corrections and long-term residential placements,
with the focus of transition and stabilization of youth back
into the community.
Mr. Raabe obtained his masters degree from Trinity College
of Vermont and is well versed in the principles of community
mental health with a focus on children and adolescents with
severe emotional disturbances. Having completed an intensive
internship with the Mobile Urgent Treatment Team (MUTT) in
Milwaukee, Mr. Raabe is also aware of crisis intervention and
prevention methods in dealing with suicidal and other high
risk youth. Mr. Raabe has over 13 years of experience in the
mental health, social service, and juvenile justice fields.
