Certified Substance Abuse Counselor
Melinda is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University’s Master’s of Social Work program and has an undergraduate degree in Psychology from Bloomsburg University. She received her license in social work and her certification in substance abuse. Her background primarily includes working with adults dealing with mental health and substance abuse issues. She has worked with this population in a variety of settings including the homeless population, veterans, health professionals, and those on local or state probation for drug and alcohol charges. She currently supervises the outpatient program in both the Richmond and Petersburg offices of National Counseling Group. Melinda utilizes Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Solution Focused Therapy in her work with this population. She helps clients assume responsibility and accountability for their behavior while developing empathy for their current plight. Her goal is to help clients actualize their full potential and take an investment in their overall recovery.
